Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice

A hint of pumpkin spice is in the air, but only because of my Bath and Body wallflowers.  I had told myself that I was really going to hold off on the outrageously early decorating this year.  After all, it is over 90 degrees outside.  There’s not an orange, red, or yellow leaf in sight.  Everything is perfectly green.  I’ll wait, I told myself.  I’ll wait until the last week of September.  I’ll wait even though I am soooo tired of my summer wreath and my summer garden flag.  I will probably perish if I have to continue to water my outdoor flower pots.  They are all overgrown and gangly anyway.  I totally dislike the color combinations.  I have no idea what I was thinking when I put those together back in May.  I was obviously high on antihistamines.  The bright sunshiny pillows on my front porch bench are way too cheery.  School is in session now.  Watermelons and sunshines are totally inappropriate.  My whole house is so outdated it is like living in a museum! So, I have begun to cheat a little.

My first cheat was when the candy corn and mellowcreme pumpkins hit the store shelves.  LOVE them!  I know, I know, they are pure sugar and 90% of people hate them, but I love them.  I could eat an entire bag of them every day.  Sometimes I almost do.  I told myself that buying candy was not decorating, even when I put them in festive jars in the kitchen.  That was just having snacks available.  On the counter.  In a cute display.  That I have to keep refilling, because apparently they have a leak somewhere and all of the candy keeps disappearing.  Weird.

My next cheats were the Bath and Body wallflowers and hand soaps in fall and pumpkin scents.  To be fair, that was at the request of Matthew and Emily who also like fall scents.  I just started in their rooms.  I did not change out all of the wallflowers I have, just the ones in their rooms.  Changing them all would be a big task.  I have a lot of them.  Plus, it is not the end of September.

Then I started noticing all of the pumpkin flavored treats appearing at the grocery store.  That is food, so, again, it does not count as decoration.  I do not think I have walked past one that I have not purchased, unless it just sounded really yucky.  Today I bought pumpkin spice and cinnamon swirl soft caramels.  Delicious!  I’m going to have diabetes by Christmas.  I also bought Fall Blend Starbucks coffee.  I’m going to dunk my pumpkin spice Belvita breakfast biscuits in it.  I’ll pour my coffee into my cute disposable fall coffee cups that I found at TJ Maxx.  They were next to the furry leopard pumpkins.

Furry leopard pumpkins!  I have yarn pumpkins, ceramic pumpkins, plastic pumpkins, glass pumpkins, white pumpkins, orange pumpkins, striped pumpkins, bumpy pumpkins, but no furry leopard pumpkins!  Until now.  I feel complete.  This is part of the problem.  I will need a good two days to put out my fall decorations.  I have about six huge plastic tubs of fall decor.  Setting it out is a process.

First, does anyone else do their fall decor in stages, or is it just me?  I do 1. Early fall 2. Fall  3. Halloween 4. Thanksgiving.  I’ll just do early fall in September.  Early fall consists of scarecrows and fall leaves and a few pumpkins, but it’s mostly just a change in colors.  Lots of yellows, reds, and oranges.  Of course, I’ll also have to change all of my scents.  I am so excited.  I probably won’t make it much longer.  I’m thinking next weekend will be as long as I can stand it.  I have seen other people who have their fall wreaths and flags out.  I don’t want to be the last one.  I made it pretty long, I think.  I’ll take a few things into the office this week to tide myself over.

Just think, after all of this decorating fun… Christmas!!!!!!!  Yes, I am 1,000 times worse than a kid.
